Dr. Andrew Barton is specialist in space engineering and technologies. Until recently he has worked at SmartSat CRC where he oversaw and steered numerous research projects that investigated and demonstrated new space technologies, particularly in the areas of onboard AI, space mission autonomy and advanced satellite instruments. 

He previously held executive positions in two Australian leading space tech start-ups;
– at Southern Launch, where he managed the aerospace engineering work in support of the company’s launch facilities and rocketry projects, and
– at Fleet Space Technologies, where he oversaw the procurements of satellites and launch services, led the technical staff and managed strategic technical partnerships.

Prior to those positions in Australia, Andrew worked in the international space industry, notably including at the Google Lunar XPRIZE in the USA and at ESA in the Netherlands.

Andrew has a PhD and a Bachelors degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Sydney as well as a Masters degree in Space Studies from the International Space University.
